Chat terms of use

Purpose

These terms set out the rules for sharing the live chat on Disaster Issue Room (disasterir.com).

How to use

No sign-up is needed; just choose a name. Reading needs no consent. To post you must agree to both these terms and the collection and use of personal information, and consent is asked again each time you join.

The chat is for the people looking at this screen right now, and earlier messages stay in place. Each message shows the name and the first two blocks of the connecting address (e.g. 127.88.xxx.xxx).

Not allowed
  • (1) abuse, insults or hate speech
  • (2) threats or defamation
  • (3) ads, promotion, or links to gambling or illegal sites
  • (4) repeating the same message (flooding)
  • (5) posting other people's personal details such as phone numbers or addresses
  • (6) impersonating the operator or an agency
  • (7) spreading unverified disaster information or false evacuation instructions
  • (8) anything else that breaks the law
If the rules are broken

Abuse, ads and flooding are filtered automatically. After three strikes you are removed, and that address cannot rejoin for 10 minutes. Filtered messages are also kept on record under the privacy notice.

Action by the operator

If a prohibited act is confirmed, the operator may delete the message and block use of the chat. A lawful request from an investigating authority is answered with records within the scope of that request.

About disaster information

Chat messages are only what users write, not official disaster information, and the operator does not guarantee their accuracy. For evacuation and safety, follow official agencies such as the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Responsibility

Each message is the responsibility of the person who wrote it.

When the chat is closed

The chat may be closed for a while without notice during maintenance, outages or overload. The chat is free.

Personal information

Handled under the privacy notice. Privacy notice ›

Changes to these terms

Changed terms are posted here with their effective date, and from then on consent is asked for the changed terms when you join.
